OLDEST TEMPLE IN KAMAKURA
It's said that the Priest Gyoki established this oldest temple in Kamakura, 500 years before the rise of the kamakura Shogunate. The three statues of the eleven-faced Goddess of Mercy are its important cultural properties, but the stone stairs with full of moss in green could be another must-see.

苔の石段で有名な杉本寺は、鎌倉幕府の成立よりもずっと前に行基が開いたと伝わる鎌倉最古のお寺だそうです。

肝心の苔の石段は美しく整備するために立ち入り禁止。代わりに本堂まで続く道がありました。行基や運慶がつくったと伝わる十一面観音像というお宝を有する杉本寺の本堂。中は撮影禁止です。

仁王門の茅葺屋根や苔の階段がみずみずしい緑になる頃にまた行きたい。
