高野山の聖域

- Beyond the big gate, it is the holy sanctuary of Koyasan. And, beyond the middle gate which is guarded by the four Guardian Kings, there is the Dai (Great) Garan, which has served as the focal point of the study, training, and rituals of Shingon Buddhist monks from the ninth century. The Konpon Daito colored in vermilion red is a fundamental part of the Garan, which was created by Kobo Daishi Kukai.
「高野山 大門」ではなくて、「金剛峯寺 大門」が正式名称らしい。ここから先は聖域です。
壇上伽藍の入り口に建つ中門の内側にいらした西の方角を守護する広目天さん。胸元には蝉。「鳴き声が遠くまで響き渡り、悪を退ける」と信じられていたからだとかなんとか。南の方角を守護する増長天さんの胸元には蜻蛉。前方へしか飛ぶことのできない蜻蛉は、「後へは引かず、断じて悪を通さない」意思の現れだとかなんとか。
すこし雲が出てきてしまいましたが、朱色に輝く根本大塔。弘法大師がまず着手したと伝えられる建物です。
紅葉もすこしずつ始まっていて（ちなみに行ったのは10月半ばの週末です）キレイでした。次はやっと金剛峯寺の紹介です。
